Síonra competed for the first time in Ireland's A Cappella Competition in August 2016 hosted by the award winning vocal ensemble Ardú. The competition took place in the stunning setting of St. Finian's Lutheran Church on Adelaide Road, Dublin. We sang our very own arrangement of Blackbird. We were inspired by both Bobby McFerrin's and Hozier's versions of this beautiful song. As well as Blackbird, we sang such a beautiful song August by the Irish composer Michael McGlynn. Well done to both The Apple Blossoms and The Ramparts who were prize winners on the night!
For Valentine's day February 2016, Síonra got back into the studio and released a cover of their favourite love song When I Fall In Love. Purchase their latest single here:
In December 2015 Síonra arranged and recorded Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson's Winter Song, for 6 female voices. Purchase their debut single Winter Song (a cappella) here:
News and Events
In July 2017, Síonra competed in Ireland's International A Cappella Competition in Griffith College Conference Centre. It was a fantastic day full of fun arrangements and complex harmonies. We were delighted when we got through to the final and then ecstatic when we won an amazing prize for Best Individual Song for our version of Beyonce's Daddy Lessons. We were very proud of this song as we workshopped it and arranged it ourselves which allowed us to include influences of another Beyonce song Pray You Catch Me. We channelled our inner Beyonce and stepped out of our comfort zone with this song, and so, we're glad all the hard work paid off! The prize involves Ollie Lambert, the Composer in Residence for the aca-weekend, arranging us a piece and we're very much looking forward to collaborating with him! We also sang our old favourite Blackbird, a new favourite One Day I'll Fly Away and the stunning One Last Song. We're lucky to have excellent footage of our performance as recorded by FloVoice so make sure to check it out on YouTube.
